FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Calling All Apple Mac Users!
It appears there are far more Mac users here in Indian Ridge than would normally be found in a community of a thousand homes. Must be the higher percentage of retired folks (or maybe the higher intelligence level of Ridgers!?)
Announcing RMUG
There was good interest in forming our own Mac Users Group, which we are calling RMUG for Ridge Mac Users Group.
Never heard of Mac User Groups (MUG) - What are they? Mac User Groups are organizations created by people interested in sharing information about their Apple computers and what they can accomplish with the help of digital technology. User groups are about the technology, but also about the friendships that result. Over 800 user groups worldwide have registered with Apple.
What benefits do user groups offer? User groups help members with technical questions, give honest advice on choosing software, hardware and peripherals, and provide a friendly environment where people can learn from each other. Groups offer monthly meetings, an informative newsletter or website, member discounts, classes, one-on-one support, and of course, the camaraderie that Apple users share.
What happens at user group meetings? Meetings vary depending on the group. Group members often present — either about technology or about an individual project such as a photo management or building a webpage. Most meetings include time for question and answer sessions as well as some social and networking activities. You can ask any question about your Mac computer, iPad or iPhone - easy or difficult, and hopefully get an answer from a knowledgeable fellow user.

If you’ve never heard of user groups, you probably have many questions. User groups offer benefits to everyone — for people who are new to computers, people who are veterans in the technology industry, and for everyone in between.
Why Join a User Group?
Make new friends. Meet people who share your interests and passions. Find a group of friends with whom you can talk about Macs, iPads, iPhones, iPods and more, or just hang out. Go to a monthly meeting or to special events.
Get support and enhance your skills. You’ve got questions. Your local user group has answers. Enhance your skills so you can take yourself to a new professional level, or create projects for your family or hobbies. User groups can help you work harder or play harder.
Teach. Maybe you’ve got some of the answers. User groups are a rewarding way for you to share your expertise. Someone may have helped you learn about technology; now you can repay the favor while meeting new people and making new contacts.
Save money. Get tips on the best hardware and software. And user group members receive exclusive benefits from a large number of companies. You can save money on software and hardware from many vendors.
Find local resources. The Internet provides many answers and resources. However, nothing beats the personal connection of meeting with local Mac users and exploring the resources that are available locally — from resellers to technical support to community activities.
Friendships. If you happened to find a kindred spirit while at a group event, it wouldn’t be the first time in user group history. That’s what can happen when you find people in your community who have similar interests. User group meetings can even change your life through the relationships you form.
Tell the world. Perhaps you’re passionate about the world’s greatest technology. User groups give you the chance to tell the world — or at least many people in your community. Help spread the news by hosting demonstrations and meetings at community events.
It’s just plain fun. There’s something about user groups that makes members come back time after time. They love it. They love the people they meet and the opportunities that user groups create. Being a user group member is just plain fun.
What benefits do user groups offer?
User groups help members with technical questions, give honest advice on choosing software, hardware and peripherals, and provide a friendly environment where people can learn from each other. Many groups offer monthly meetings, an informative newsletter, member discounts, special interest groups, classes, one-on-one support, and of course, the camaraderie that Apple users share. Larger groups offer extensive training programs, computer labs, and resource libraries.
How are user groups organized?
User groups are independent organizations run by local volunteer Apple enthusiasts. Apple promotes and supports user groups, but the company does not own, manage, or direct them. They are not organized into a formal hierarchy; each operates independently. Once organized, user group members can elect officers — or just use a volunteer coordinator — who manages the month to month operations of the group.
Why should I join a user group?
Joining gives you full access to all the benefits a group offers. Though membership offerings vary from group to group, you can look for a website, personalized advice, regular meetings and a welcoming atmosphere. You’ll feel connected to the many other Apple users in your community.
